Herbal Remedies For Psoriasis

by Laura
(Dandenong, Vic, Australia)

I have a mild case of psoriasis and the steroidal creams don't really work, I have been using them for years and my condition although not worsening isn't getting any better either. So my question is 'what do you suggest?'

Matthew's reply: Hi Laura, Chinese herbal medicine typically treats psoriasis (and other skin conditions) well. This is because, unlike steroidal creams, it addresses the underlying cause(s) of the problem and not just the symptoms. There is no single Chinese herbal remedy for psoriasis though, for 2 reasons:

1. Chinese medicine recognizes more than one underlying cause of psoriasis.

2. Chinese medicine recognizes that each of us is unique, so even if two people have the same problem (say psoriasis) they won't necessarily get the same treatment. Each person will have symptoms that the other doesn't so their treatment needs to reflect this.

For you to find out which Chinese herbal formula is best you will need to consult face to face with a professional practitioner of Chinese herbal medicine. Acupuncturists also often prescribe Chinese herbal medicine. In Victoria your local Yellow Pages will have a list of professional Chinese medicine and acupuncture practitioners.

All the best,

Matthew
