Natural Toothache Remedy

Looking for a natural toothache remedy? Need to ease toothache pain till you can get to a dentist? These traditional Chinese toothache remedies include a brief outline of the Chinese herbal approach to toothache and some classic toothache home remedies.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), there are various causes of toothache. Chinese herbal treatment depends on the cause and the type of pain. Basically, dull toothache pain indicates an underlying deficiency in the body, while intense, throbbing pain indicates an excessive condition.

Toothaches often come from too much heat in the body - a common cause of the excessive type of toothache. Excessive heat is usually due to too much hot, spicy, fried, sweet food, alcohol and coffee. Over time the heat builds and rises to affect your head, but it manifests differently in each of us - some people get toothaches, others get headaches or facial acne or other "hot" type problems affecting the head.

If you often get toothaches Chinese herbal medicine can help you, but you will first need to consult a Chinese herbal practitioner for a TCM diagnosis of your particular condition.

If you need to ease toothache pain till you can get to a dentist, try these toothache home remedies. They may not work for everyone but they are safe and can only help.

Toothache Home Remedies

1. Acupressure: A simple home remedy for toothache and headache. Watch the video.

Note: Don't press this point during pregnancy (particularly in the last trimester) as it can stimulate uterine contractions.

How: The point is located on both hands, about 3-4cm (1.5 inches) in from the edge of the webbing between your thumbs and index fingers. Put your left thumb on the right hand point and your left index finger on the other (palm) side of the webbing to create a pinching technique. Squeeze and massage the point in very small circular movements for 1-2 minutes. Repeat on the other hand. Do this several times a day.

2. Garlic: A classic Chinese natural toothache remedy

Garlic is another traditional Chinese home remedy for toothache. It can ease toothache pain through killing bacteria and toxins associated with tooth infections. Apply a thin slice of fresh garlic to the affected tooth and gum. Repeat several times in a day. You can also lightly bake a fresh garlic clove then slice it and apply it while hot to the sore tooth and gum. Repeat several times in a day.

As mentioned, each natural remedy for toothache (above) may not help everyone with a toothache, but they are safe and easy remedies to try. Even if they just ease toothache pain till you can get to a dentist, they are worthwhile. If your teeth are in good condition and you are getting toothaches I recommend you try Chinese herbal medicine and/or acupuncture.
