2. Andrographis Pills (Chuan Xin Lian) This second remedy is very effective when taken at the first sign of a sore throat. It is antiviral, antibacterial and antipyretic. This remedy treats sore throat symptoms and conditions due to viral and bacterial infections, such as acute sore throat, tonsillitis, laryngitis and pharyngitis. The main ingredient, andrographis, clears heat and toxins and stimulates the immune response. Dandelion is also included to clear heat and toxins.
Chronic Sore Throat Remedies 1. Pure Sound Pills (Qing Yin Wan) This first chronic sore throat remedy clears heat from and soothes and lubricates the throat. It is good for recurrent dry, sore throat with possible loss of voice, hoarse voice and throat nodules or polyps. Good for singers, teachers and anyone who uses their voice a lot, as well as smokers. 2. Ophiopogon Schisandra & Rehmannia Pills (Mai Wei Di Huang Wan) This remedy is demulcent (soothes mucus membranes), febrifuge (stops fever), antitussive (stops cough). It also benefits the kidneys. It is used for chronic, dry, sore throat due to lung and kidney weakness. This kind of chronic sore throat is usually worse in the afternoon and night. Other symptoms may include thirst, dry lips and mouth, dry cough with blood-streaked sputum, and wheezing. The ingredients include rhemannia which nourishes the kidneys, ophiopogon which moistens the lungs and clears heat, and schisandra which improves lung function and stops cough.
